FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Choosing your watch winder

Do I need a watch winder?

A watch winder is for automatic (self-winding) watches. If you own an automatic watch that you don't wear daily, a winder keeps it running and on time, so complications such as the date, day or moonphase don't need resetting.

What is TPD (turns per day)?

TPD is the number of rotations a winder completes in 24 hours. Watch manufacturers typically recommend a TPD range for each movement, and many common automatic movements fall between 650 and 950 TPD.

How do I know which settings my watch needs?

Check your watch manufacturer's guidance for the recommended TPD and rotation direction (clockwise, anti-clockwise or bidirectional). If you're unsure, send us your watch brand and model and we'll help you find the right option.

Will my watch fit?

The external dimensions of each model are listed on its product page, so you can check the space it needs before ordering. If in doubt, contact us with your watch model and we'll confirm the fit.

Features and specifications

Are the winders quiet?

Where a noise level is specified by the manufacturer, it is listed on the product page.

Is it safe to leave a watch on a winder?

A winder replicates the winding a watch receives when worn. Many models run interval programmes with rest periods rather than turning continuously. If in doubt, follow your watch manufacturer's guidance.
